A compilation of sources providing a “concise summary statement of both the history and the message of 1888 that will create a hunger for more.” Created by Ron Duffield, Pastor Rob Benardo, and Pastor David Tenold; funded by the Battle Creek SDA Tabernacle Book Evangelism project. (Other books by this project are available from our ministry, including a modern-language adaptations of A.T. Jones’ sermons from the 1893 General Conference session, The Sounding of the Third Angel; and a collection of W.W. Prescott’s sermons from the 1893 GC session, The Promise of the Spirit).
Jeremiah grew up a third-generation Seventh-day Adventist. He went through our educational system, attended church with his parents, got baptized and even went to a Seventh-day Adventist college. But something was still missing. He got married thinking that would fill the void in his life, but he was still empty inside. He and his wife attended a very progressive Seventh-day Adventist church equipped with snare drums and jean-clad preachers.
That seemed to help for a while. Then the emptiness returned with a vengeance. Jeremiah straight from the church, getting into casual drinking which progressively got heavier. As far as music, he found himself listening to musicians that were nothing short of satanic. His marriage was failing, his teenage kids were already out of the church and things were not looking well.
Mary also grew up a third-generation Seventh-day Adventist. She was raised with all the usual conservative norms growing up. She wore the right length dresses, ate the right kind of foods and listen to all the right music. She was part of a conservative family and attended a very traditional Seventh-day Adventist college. Outwardly, she was doing great, but inwardly she too was empty.
What did they both have in common? They saw their religion as a bunch of do’s and don’ts and lacked assurance and joy. Their lives lack of power and purpose. The gospel concepts found in the pages of this little book changed their lives. We believe it will change yours too! Maybe your experience with God is already thriving. In that case, may God call you to an even more vibrant relationship with Him!Introduction to the booklet
